Lunar Halo

A moon halo, or lunar halo, is a bright ring of light around the moon. It is caused by moonlight refracting through hexagonal ice crystals, found in high-altitude cirrus clouds. These crystals, acting as tiny prisms bend the light at a 22° angle. Lunar halos often indicate approaching rain or snow as these high clouds precede weather changes.
